"Is Government a Positive Force or a Negative Necessity?"

The pros of more government would consist of the following: Social Security, Family Leave and Medical Emergency Act, helmet and seat-belt laws and local and state governments provide sewer systems, garbage collection, recycling programs, roads, and free public education at elementary and secondary levels, plus including low-cost junior colleges and state universities. The pros of less government would consist of the following: people would be responsible for their own safety, it would allow more individual freedom and liberty, also smaller, more limited governments would be less likely to be corrupt and could be held accountable more easily than large governments and finally, the activities would be more transparent, because there would be fewer of them, so people would always know what the government was doing.
I'm in favor of less government. I believe it is unfair for motorist's to be fined for not wearing a safety belt. It should be the owners choice. You would hope that they would have the common sense to wear one, however, it is their life they choose to put on the line and should not be fined. Next, governments should not dictate to restaurant owners the no smoking law. I feel it is good enough for the owner to designate a smoking area. Governments should keep their noses out of private business. Then, with the gun control, governments should just follow the rules they have already set in place with respect to purchasing a gun. In closing the more involved the government becomes in our personal lives the less freedoms the United States of America will have.
